The gupta rule is offen called the golden age of the Indian history of guptas.

Chandragupta.

Chandragupta 1, the founder of the gupta dynasty, ascended the throne of Magadha in 320 BCE.

He ruled from pataliputra  and expanded his kingdom as far as Allahabad.

He ruled for 15 years and took the title of maharaja dhiraja.

For the first time in Indian history, by the 4^th century BCE, a large empire was built in Indian under the mauryas.

The mauryan empire politically unified a large part of the country.
